Category: accessible Devices
Hi Everyone!
I just got the LG LX5550 Mobile phone.
It's really cool It's a flip phone, it's small, compact, and light weight. It is accessible, and I got it for $100.
Any thoughts?
Kolby
cool although to be honest flip phones can be very anoying with all the up down thingy
Have they finally upgraded the LG 5550 to provide the same level of accessibility as the 4500? Last I heard, the 5550 would only speak the numbers you type in and read the time, but not read caller ID, phone book or missed call information. It would also not read the signal strength or battery alarm like the 4500. Are you using it with U.S. Cellular?
They have updated the LG 4500.
Hmmm, haven't heard of this phone. Was it lx? I still have the vx4500, not eligible for an update until May. Next time I need to make it clear I need a trimode phone. Sheesh, I wish the people at the store would know what you need. I told the guy I do a lot of traveling, and that I'm mostly in an extended network. The vx4500 is digital and sometimes has crappy signal in extended area. Anyone seen the vx4650 yet?
The 4650's just a repackaged 4500. I have one. They gave it to me as a replacement because my 4500 was giving me fits. There's really nothing different about the 4650 as far as blind people are concerned.
Have you noticed any improvement on phone reception?
Actually, my 4500 received great. This one doesn't.
In what ways are this phone accessible? I'm not very familiar with the LG phones, though I've seen quite a few of them. :-)
I have the LG--VX4750. The only thing different from it at the 4650 is that it has a touch to talk feature on it. I like it and all, but i wish all of the menus would speak. It only works up until the sub menu and then yo uare shit out of luck.
I know, what a silly concept. Say, they made these phones for the sighted for when they are driving... What happens, they push bottons, going off the voice, then what. Sorry sighted dude, you can only go so far, then take your eyes off the road to finish your activity. It's rediculous. Let's hope drivers are only using the driving mode to make and receive calls. Hey, on these later models, is text messenging any more accessible?
let me get this straight for4 me to have a talking callerid on my cell i just need to get an lg??? if that is the case anyone know if t-mobile will support one of these
ok, I got cingular and the lg 1500 hmm i wonder if this will help me out make my life somewhat easier
Nope. With Cingular, you wanted a Nokia that will run Talks.
NO with cingular you want a phone that supports talx. I had the lg vx4650 with verizon, and I liked it alot, I just liked cingular and talx better but the vx4650 is good for what it is worth.
From what I heard the LG 4650 is suppose to get better reception, because it's a tryband.
From what I heard the LG 4650 is suppose to get better reception, because it's a tryband.
so the lg 4650 will read you the time and the different menues but not the submenues??
Yes, it only reads the menus, and the submenus up to the first sublevel, but that is it. However, on the up side, it does read the date and time, the phone status, signal strength, missed calls, messages, or voicemails, and partial reading of your phonebook!
what's the diference betwene the LGVX4500 and the 4650?
Well, I do have a Nokia (SP?) from singuler right now. (I can't get any reception though) Singular (SP?) has crappy reception anyways. So I'm currently switching back to verision. :) (and I am getting an LG, with the MP3 player on it). -Amber
i have the LG4650 and its cool it reads all the menues up to the first submenue. althow i can change ringtones. it is small, compact and light weight. but i hope i can update my phone in a year. it reads the phonebook. battery, signal strength, i wish i can read the call timer, and some of the other stuff, i like it. i just got it 3 days ago. it has very good reception.
I have the LG 8300, i just gottit a week ago. It reads all the stuff the 4500 does, but it still doesn't read txt messages that i'm aware of, i really would like to have that feature though. I also figured that it does not read the phone book like my 4500 did. If anyone has this phone and could maybe show me some things about it i'd appreciate it. I really wish it read the phone book as that was very helpful.
thanks
Nicole, I found out where to go to hear an audio demonstration of using the LG4650. I'm not sure if there is a demo of your newer version, but you could look and see. Go to www.blindcooltech.com. Enter on the archive link. For me, I had to do a JAWS find command for 4650 to find what I was looking for, but you could read the different links. There may also be a place to ask about that phone. I didn't do much exploring of the web site. Hope this helps.
oh cool, thanks becky i'll check it out
HelloWhere can you get talx for a singertor phone.
Ok, I've written this so many times it's not funny so I'm not going to make my post so pretty. This time I'm going to make it simple. I don't know why it won't let me post my message if I preview it. But anyway. I have an lg4500 but I am planning on switching to TMobile as soon as my contract is up. Not everyone needs the same kind of phone so, I'm not saying this is the perfect phone for everyone, just that I favored it and was planning to look into switching as soon as possible. There's a review of the phone on the:
capital accessibility website.
I like a lot of it's features and I'm sure there are a few who will. You'd have to be with a company who supports sim cards because that's what that phone was made for but, it'd be worth it.. or at least I think so.
Hope this helps and not confuses.
Amber
Can you get these fones in the UK? I'd luv one just cos of the flipness. I have a nokia 7610 at the moment but i've had it for over a year now and i want another one. lol.
what is the best phone is it a lg phone or a nokia? if it is a lg which one can tell you the most information that is on the screen? thanks
Anyone using an LG VX5200? I love mine. It's great!
I've heard the 5300 is now the new favorite among blind people. But I'm happy with my 4650.
Anyone played with the Fusic? It's LG's top of the line for Sprint. It looks like it has similar capabilities as far as reading menus. I just was curious if anyone had it what they think of it. I am thinking of trying to pick up a used one to ride out my Sprint Contract because I am downright tired of the little troubles my phone has been having, not to mention not being able to access anything non-visually.
dan and i just baught the lg ux210, i think is what it is, for my grandparents. but it does red text messages. i thaught that was cool!they'll probably never use it since they are sighted. we were just looking through the manual and found that it does do that. shea
I just baught the LG 5300 and it is a lot better then the 4650.
Here are improovements that I've noticed.
1. Updated hearing aid compatabillity. The 4650 worked with hearing aids but you could not hear what you were speaking on tella coyl. The new model you can actually hear yourself talk. The menu structure is different. Updated battery.
With the old 4650 the battery has a memory. It is possible to overcharge the battery. Also one should not charge the battery until it reaches 25% full. Charging it before it reaches this level could mess up the batteries memory. The new model has a chip that stops the charge when it reaches full. It also states in the manual to maxumize battery life that you should keep the 5399 at full charge if possibel.
Call quolity is better on this new moddel as well. Reviews on CNET state that callers cannot tell you are on a cell phone with this new model ware as the old model has issues with echo on speaker phone and slight worbbeling when useing the ear piece. I can testify that the new model is that clear, that good. Like the old model, the 5300 supports anolog transmitions as well as the two digital bands that Verizon works with.
The downfall of the new model is the speech. It doesn't recidnize my voice as easy as the old model did. The contact list sounds distorted. Driving mode and anounce mode has been eliminated, but if you turn on alert mode it will still read the caller ID information. The caller ID reads faster on this new model, and it uses a different speech coddec as well.
All and all if you are going to be up for a new contract with Verizon, I would highly suggest the 5300. Menu accessibility is still the same on this model (Only reading speech in the first two levels), but it is lighter and slightly smaller then the older model. The soft keys on this model are slightly bigger, but the grid ware the numbers are is slightly smaller. The numbers starting with the row 1, 2, 3 is bigger with 4, 5, 6... 7, 8, 9,... etc buttens getting smaller as you go down each row. Any more questions you have about the 5300 reply here, or contact me.
John
Update on the 3500. The speech package isn't bad as I sated before. However whenever you hit the contact butten to go through your contacts, the speech reading your list sounds verry verry distorted. I'm not sure why this is. Adjusting volumes in the menu doesn't do any good as far as getting rid of this distortion. I've never seen a phone with a battery better then this one. The other day I talked for about 3 hours and it only went to half full from a full charge. I also like the option that you can have it set to talk the ID then ring, talk the ID and vibrate while ringing, talk the ID repeetedly while vibrating, or talk the ID repeetedly without vibration. Pretty good. You can also set it to anounce networks as you're going in and out. When you firsst turn on the phone it'll say the network you're connected too. If you rome or go into an extended network, it will speak this optin to you. you can set it to beep instead of speaking this option as well. Downside is not all of these options come on the phone as default settings, and someone will have to set these settings for you. Once set you'll be all set to go.
John
Update 2 on the 5300 phone. I went to the Verizon store and there is nothing that can be done about the distortion. Even if you were to get the LG 8300, the distortion would still be there. This is because though LG makes the hardware (The actual phone itself), it is Verizon who installs the software. Ie the software comes from Verizon.

I believe that the lgvx9900 reads text messages. Is this correct?
Also, does anybody know about the new lg chocolate? Does that read text messages?
The LG9900 does read text messages, but I am not sure about the chocolate phones. Right now I have an lg vx 5300 phone. It's pretty good, the signal strength is a bit worse than the 4650, but still I really like it. I would highly recommend this small phone for beginners.
i have a friend who has the choclate phones. i actually want to get one. i think its more acessible. but i i don't know how acessible it is so plz, plz, plz, give any suggestions.
oh, the chocolate phones do support sim cards
does any one know about the lg phone from sprint? i think it is called a mucik phone.
I don't know anything about the lg sprint phone--sorry. I am not with the sprint company for my cell phone--I have Verizon Wireless. Good luck trying to find it.
ok, i would like to know about the acessibility of verizon's lg choclate phones because one of my friends has it and its very cool. but i am not sure if the voice commands are more advanced on that one, plz reply if any one has one of those currently.
plz reply if you have heard of these phones
Hi all.
I am going to be getting a new phone. I am thinking of either getting the lg 8350 or the Motorola Q and purchasing MobileSpeak smartphone. However, I told my dad and he asked me why I wanted the Q. I told him that the LG phones are not 100% accessible. So now I can't get it--so I'm getting the 8350. If anyone has an 8350, leave me comments on this board. I'd be happy to learn as much about the 8350 before purchasing it.
Thanks so much.
Macy
If anyone has the lg 8350 manual, please either post to this board or send me a private quicknote or you can email me. Thanks.
Never mind--I got the manual, but thanks anyway.
Okay, I have the LG4650, but I'm wondering if the LG9900 does everything the 4650 does? I heard someone say that it reads the text messages and that's cool!
hey hey peaps, I have a LG UX245, and i was wondering where i could get a user manual or if any one could give me some information about it, thanks bunches.
Mona.
I still have the 5300. I don't think I'll be getting a new phone.
I have an 4650 and I use the 5300. I think when my contract runs out I'm gonna stick with Verizon and use the phone until it breaks, otherwise I'll be collecting phones! LOL
John
i bought the LGNV phone and is very cool.
you can read send and receave texxt messages and i believe you can read emails too.
I am not sure, i have to figure out that one.
But, i don't know how to send text messages.
its not 100 percent messages, but i think that the mobile speak phones cost a whole lot so i got the LGnv phone wich has a full keyboard and a camera.
on the outside part of the flip phone, it has the regular standard keypad for the numbers
the only thing i can't do is go on the internet, but i will just stick with that for now.
it can't do all the things i would like like going on the net but i can text message and do emails i think.
oh, i forgot that if you send a message, when you type, it can announce all the letters you type
I didn't really like the NV. Someone who got one let me see it, and it just seemed too bulky for me. I didn't really care for the way it looked, or how it felt in my hand.
does the LG NV phone read email?
plz reply.
Anyone know anything about the voyager?
I got the new env 2 from verizon, and I love it. No, my phone is completely accessible, but I can send/recieve text messages, create contacts, add rings tones from the list to certain contacts, and other things. To be honest, I'm glad I didn't spend five hundred dollars. For one, I didn't have the money. i had to buy a new laptop. so obviously, I didn't have the money. For two, I like the accessibility I've been given right out of the box. As long as I can text, I'm very happy. So, for some of you who don't spend five hundred dollars, you don't have to feel bad. There are phones that are pretty accessible without mobilespeak. Audiovox I know has one that you can text from also, but I didn't like it cause it was a qwerty keypad. LG is the best brand I think, so if you can, go with it. Also, if you are interested in the voyager, it can do the same things as the new env, it's keyboard is bigger though so the keys are more accessible. You do not need to use the touch screen even though it has one. I have a sighted friend who has a voyager, and she told me that she never uses the touch screen because every thing that needs to be done with the phone can be done with the keyboard. So there.
Hey with the env2 can you creat ring tones with mp3's you already have? anyone with information about this phone , I'd be intresteding in knowing about it.
Cheers,
Kat
Hey, I don't know if you can create ringtones, but I love this phone, but I'm sure it is somehow possible. I just don't know how. The ENV is not very expensive either. You will pay from 50-150 for it. Good luck. Sorry I'm not much help
I have sprint and the LG Muziq. I do like it, although it will not read text messages to the best of my knolege. I wanted this phone not only for the fact that it talks, but because it is also an mp3 player, and I have a Micro sd card that will hold up to 4 gigs of music. However, from what I can tell, the mp3 player is not accessible. A sighted person has to go through the phone's menus and create a playlist before it will play. I sure would love to be told that I'm wrong on this, so if anyone has any information at all on this phone, please post.
